How do radio DJs get interviews with musicians/celebrities?
I’m talking about phone interviews mostly and more importantly who is the person who sometimes comes on the line and says like "you have one minute left" or "wrap it up".
Do they pay to get interviews?
The celebs rarely get paid for the interviews. They gain by the publicity. Here in Las Vegas at the 6 Staions where I work we get many of them plugging their shows in town, and their new releases. About once a month we get a group with a mini concert for about 30 mnutes in our Lobby. They cost us nothing as the group gets tremendous publicity due to the high ratings our stations have. Some stations without the large audience, might not get as good service.

Is there a reliable way to find addresses to send celebrity fan mail to?
If I wanted to send a celebrity a fan letter…Is there a certain web-site that is reliable where I can get an address to send the letter to? I have often seen a celebrity in a movie or interview and was really impressed and would like to send them a note. I have searched on the web, but seem to be led around in circles.
if you wanna be a stalker, you could always pay for their address…but that may be a bit….creeperish
How can a freelance writer get interviews with small-time celebrities?
Do they send a cover-letter to the agent, if applicable? Do they get charged for the time taken? What is the typical etiquette for seeking an interview? Should questions be ready? Any applicable information is appreciated.
Ideally, you’ll be writing this for a publication (that pays!) so they should be handling getting you in touch with the celeb.
If not, you’ll likely have to go through their agent or manager. You can find those people by signing up for Internet Movie Database’s premium membership (www.imdb.com). Send them an email and let them know who you’re writing for and what you’re going to talk about. Keep it short and professional. Also, let them know where your other stories have appeared.
Don’t show them your questions beforehand. You want to get genuine answers from your subjects and if they know the questions ahead of time, it gives them time to prepare "canned" responses.
If you don’t have a publication willing to run your story, you’re going to have a hard time of it. People’s time is valuable, and they don’t want to waste it talking with some freelance writer if there’s not a final product at the end of it.
