The History Of Celebrity Cruise Lines
The Chandris Line was the precursor of Celebrity Cruises.
One of the ships operated by Chandris was the beautiful Liner America previously owned by the United States Line and initially captained by Demitrios Challioris who had been in charge of a crude oil tanker in Southampton.
Chandris bought the largest passenger liner ever in Greece called the Australis. The Australis had served extensively as a troop ship during the second world war so underwent a major refit and became a one-class configuration geared to carry 2300 passengers.
The aft promenade decks were extended, a swimming poolwas added, and air conditioning was installed.
She made 3 month voyages around the world from Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Southampton, Casablanca, Las Palmas, Cape Town,(or through the Mediterranean via Gibraltar, Naples, Malta, Piraeus, Port Said and Aden), Freemantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Suva, Tahiti, Acapulco, Balboa, Cristobal, Port Everglades and return to Southampton.
Chandris Lines also had the Australian Government’s prized immigrant contract bringing tens of thousands of new immigrants out to major ports in Australia.
The ships were always sold out so that there were 3 sittings for dinner and special sittings for kids. P&O, a rival cruise line, had ceased the line voyage business to Australia so that the Australis was now known as “the world’s largest express liner” .
In 1977 Australis tried a new itinerary from the South Pacific to points in South America to Portugal.
Interest in Sea Travel at that time was low and Australis and became the sole remaining liner on the trade.
New Immigrants now traveled by jet.
In November of 1977 Australis was laid up.
In 1978 she was sold to US investors.
They mismanaged the ship and their company, Venture Cruises, was declared bankrupt.
Guess who bought the ship in bankruptcy court?
Chandris Lines.
For $4 million less than the amount for which they sold her four months earlier!
The ship was laid up and sold in 1992.
Celebrity Cruises was created by Chandris Lines as a separate luxury cruise line, initially using Chandris’s Galileo, which was renamed Meridian after she was rebuilt. She was joined by the new ships Horizon and Zenith in 1990 and 1992.
In 1989 there was a need in the Cruise Industry for a luxury product at a decent price.
Chandris wanted to establish a worldwide standard for cruising by The company was determined to set a new, worldwide standard for cruising.
Exceptional Cuisine and all its facets became the mainstay of the Celebrity Cruise experience.
Master Chefs serve as the line’s revered culinary and wine consultants since its founding.
In 1995 Celebrity introduced the so called Century Class Fleet with an Industry first:
Luxurious Spa Experiences.
In 1997, Celebrity Cruises merged with Royal Caribbean International, bringing together two extraordinary cruise brands within one corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
Today Royal Caribbean uses 29 Cruise Liners.
Cruising has become so popular that from 2000 to 2002 Royal Caribbean doubled its passenger capacity.
Its newest ships use gas turbine engines reducing exhaust emissions by 95% and have become traveling art shows as well. They boast original paneling and artifacts from famous transatlantic luxury liners.
In 2001, building on the strengths of both the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises brands,Royal Celebrity Tours was started to offer truly unique vacations in Alaska, Canada and Europe, combining outstanding cruises with exceptional pre- or post-cruise land tour packages now known as “cruisetours.”

Heres a list of celebrities that I think are overrated in talent and average-looking or just plan annoying and overexposed:
-Nicholas Cage-I only liked him in Con Air, but otherwise I can’t stand to see him.

-Sienna Miller-Well, she can dress.
-Blake Lively-She can dress, but I like Leighton Meister better than her she is the real star of Gossip Girl.
-Megan Fox-Talentless
-Pamela Anderson-Talentless
-Carmen Electra-Talentless
-Jennifer Lopez-Bad Singer, Bad Actress, Bad Clothing line, but she can dance. lol
-Rhianna-Ugh, skin bleacher.
-Keyshia Cole-I don’t see the hype, shes just a regular hoodrat and her family is so ghetto and embarssing.
-Kim Kardashian-Fake, annoying, talentless.
Underrated
-India.Arie-Writes great music about body image, skin color hair.
-Lauryn Hill-Poor Lauryn the industry made her go crazy, listen to her track "All Falls Down ( History of Antiquity).
-Naomi Harris-Beautiful and talented…
-Sophie Okenedo-OMG, she and Don Cheadle were great in Hotel Rwanda
-Jasmine Sullivan-Great voice so underappreciated
-Regina King-She’s always playing second fildde and never gets the credit she deserves. She does the voices of Huey and Riley on the Boondocks.
-Don Cheadle-He’s great in every movie.
-Jim Carrey-He’s a very good comdiean and he is also very good in serious films.
-Benicio Del Toro
-Megan Good-Typedcasted, but is a good actress
-Taraji P. Henson-Robbed of an oscar!
-Rinko Kikuchi-She was in Babel with Brad Pitt and is also in The Brothers Bloom with Adrian Brody

Mind2Mind-I hated Christain Bale’s Voice in Batman. But I really liked him in American Psycho and in Howl’s Moving Castle. He new movie looks good.
I forgot about James Marsden. He played Cycplos in the Xmen movies, he was in Superman, the Notebook, Enchanted, 27 Dresses, and Hairspary. He never gets the girl in the movie, even thought he always plays the hot rich guy. He’s so sexy.He can sing, dance and act. He got the girl in 27 dresses.
Josh Hartnett is wayyy underrated now. Maybe it’s because he’s older. He’s looking really hot these days.
Eminem need to be on the overrated list.

Overated.
-lil wayne- sound like a cat in heat.
-Jeezy- everything he promotes
-Most rap artist in general- rap is turning in huge joke and just look at Plies!
-White Saviour shows- show like the philantrophist, listerner and I could go on.
-T-pain- Music gives me a headache
-Christian Bale..Sucks with hideous voice for Batman..but the action was on point.
-Matt Ryan- Quarterback for the Falcons, that guy is so overrated I’m still a Vick fan!

-Nouvea Riche- Great Band and Nikki Jean is gorgeous!
-Omar Epps- Watching him from Juice to epsiode on House on the Fox network, that guy is a great actor.

My number one pick for overrated star is Brad Pitt.
For some reason, I’ve never been crazy about him. I like some of his movies, but I’ve never gone to movies to specifically see Brad Pitt.
Brad Pitt seems like a nice, generous person, but he’s never done "it" for me. I think he is a so-so actor and his personality is pretty dry and dull. People may consider Brad Pitt to be a young Robert Redford, but to me, he’s not nearly on Redford’s level.

I don’t really agree that Beyonce is over-rated, at all. She’s a singer, and she does that so well, and there’s no doubt in the world that she’s talented. She is not over-rated. She’s one of the few celebrities with real talent. You shouldn’t even be judging her on if she’s fake, or annoying. You should be judging her on her singing skills as she is a singer. Maybe is she was a bad singer and still got all the credit she gets I’d say she was over-rated, but she’s a great singer. Know what over-rated means before you try to force it on someone, sweety.

Henry Cavil – I LOVE LOVE LOVE him! He has been dubbed the most unlucky man in Hollywood after losing roles in Twilight, Batman and Superman. He’s currently staring in The Tudors opposite Jonathan Myers (one of your underrated stars) and in an upcoming Woody Allen movie.
Leigthon Meester – Technically she is up and coming but I still feel like she is constantly being over shadowed by Blake Lively. Who I feel comes nowhere near as great of an actress as she is.
Trey Songz – He’s been out for quite some time but considering what an immense talent he is, he should be on the same fame level as Chris Brown if not higher.
Ian Summerhalder- He’s slated to be in yet another vampire project so hopefully this will finally catapult him the spot light he so deserves.
Rachel McAdams – After a string of hits she’s kind of lost her way and faded into the background but nevertheless she is a quality actress who deserves to be on top.
Lindsay Lohan – OK we all know what a train wreck she has become but lets not forget that before any of the drama she was considered the one of the best young actresses in the business. So if she does get her act together, I am sure she will not disappoint.
Shia Labeouf – Not really underrated per say but I love him lol.
Jonah Hill – An amazing comedic talent who needs more credit as such.
Ryan Leslie – His album was hands down one of the best of the year and I see a lot of great things happening for him.
Johnta Austin – He’s a songwriter/producer who’s worked with countless artists – including Beyonce and Usher – and is now gearing up for his own album but knowing what sells today he will undoubtedly be overlooked.
Overrated
Megan Fox – I really hate how conceded this woman is, especially considering she can’t even act! I mean how you dare compare yourself to Angelina Joli.
Kate Hudson – People need to stop casting her in movies. I do not think she is cute or endearing she is not even a quarter of the actress her mother was. So they need to quit with the comparisons and stop pushing her on us.
Taylor Lautneer- I think this kid lucked out in the best way possible by being cast in the epic Twilight series, thereby solidifying his place in young Hollywood. That being said he is not cute and cannot act in my opinion.
Vanessa Hugeons – And the entire HSM cast for that matter – excluding Zac Efron – is revolting and needs to disappear./
