American Idol Returns for 8th Season With New Format

American Idol, one of the most popular reality shows on US television, will return for its 8th season with a brand spankin’ new format. Unlike the previous year’s 24 contestants, 36 emerging singers will be admitted into February’s semi-finals round, and three wild card slots—an arrangement previously used in seasons one through three—will give the judges the right to send their personal picks to the top 12 regardless of viewers’ votes. This way, genuinely talented singers are better assured of spots in the top 12 unlike in recent seasons, when relatively poorer singers got through thanks to the public’s pull.

The revival of the wild card set-up is a significant one. Highly successful Idol alumni such as Jennifer Hudson and Clay Aiken would not have gotten their big breaks were it not for their wild card status. Thus, this year, the top 12 will not be strictly comprised of six men and six women unlike in latter seasons.

The inclusion of a fourth judge in singer and record producer Kara DioGuardi will take effect next season as well, and the Hollywood round will also be extended to two full weeks. “They’re not mega-changes,” Idol’s executive producer Ken Warwick claims. “They are just little things to keep the format fresh and interesting.” Other minor modifications include the absence of charity fundraiser Idol Gives Back, which will only be revived for the 9th season, and cutting the audition round from four to three weeks to make way for the second Hollywood week.

Idol judges Paul Abdul, Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell—and now, Kara Dio Guardi—will be more brutally honest than ever before. “If the judges are mean, the judges are mean,” Warwick assures. Performers are also allowed to use instruments just like last year.

There was a 7% drop in viewers in the previous season, but Warwick asserts that the show has fared better than others. “I would be very surprised if, on this eighth series, the ratings didn’t suffer slightly, especially with this economic backdrop and the way TV audiences are going in general. I will do my best to offset that.”

Miley Cyrus’s  new life didn’t affect just her. It affected Miley cyrus’s siblings, too. But they are troupers. Miley Cyrus’s  little brother, Braison, is two years younger than Miley Cyrus. He’s the sensitive one-he’s very careful with other people’s feelings. Brazz will come to Miley Cyrus with anything, and they do their secret handshake over the most serious secrets. Miley Cyrus is not going to lie, Miley Cyrus is usually not good at keeping secrets. But when Brazz trusts her with something, nothing could make Miley Cyrus break that trust. Someone could put a knife to Miley Cyrus and she would not tell. Brazz and Miley Cyrus became close friends about a year ago. I don’t want to pin it all on fashion, but Miley Cyrus thinks it was when he got a pair of Converse sneakers. Miley Cyrus  was like, okay, you’re not a wannabe preppy kid anymore.
Noah’s the baby of the family and the comedian. She  is a tough little cookie, and nothing gets past her. When Noah was four years old, a friend and Miley Cyrus asked if they could do her makeup, and proceeded to paint her like a clown. Miley Cyrus and her friend gave her bright pink circles on her cheeks and outlined a huge blue mouth. To this day she won’t let Miley Cyrus forget it. If Miley Cyrus ever ask to put makeup on her, she says, “You’re gonna make me look like a clown!” and refuses.
Noah wants her room to be like Noah’s Ark. She’s got a huge stuffed giraffe in one corner and a huge stuffed horse in another. She  has fish, birds, and a dog. Noah wants as many animals around her as possible. That’s what she and Miley Cyrus(and their mom) have most in common. Nobody loves animals as much as they do.
Last year Miley Cyrus’s mom and dad and Brandi went to a concert, and Miley Cyrus stayed home to babysit Noah. As soon as they left, Noah said, “You’re the fun one. I want to do something really fun.” Who was Miley Cyrus to argue? So Miley Cyrus got out a big bowl and dumped in maple syrup, Coke, ice cream, whipped cream, some waffles, and sprinkles on the top. Miley Cyrus gave Noah a spoon and said, “Let’s see how much sugar we can get into you.” Miley Cyrus ate until she felt like she was going to throw up.
Then, to give her digestive tract a little time to recover, Miley Cyrus decided to indulge her senses with a gentle and soothing spa treatment. Miley Cyrus concocted a special custom facial for her out of eggs, honey, bananas, and anything else Miley Cyrus could think of. When her parents walked in the door, her mom said, “What’s that smell?” The kitchen was a mess. There was food everywhere. And her mom was right, it didn’t quite smell right. But in the morning, the first thing Noah did was put her hands to her cheeks and say, “My pores are so clean! My skin is baby soft.” Miley Cyrus was like, “That’s because you are a baby.” Miley Cyrus is so glad she still get to experience moments like those. Miley Cyrus would hate to miss them.
Miley Cyrus’s older siblings are out of the house now, but they’re still around a lot, and when they are Miley Cyrus drop everything (except school and work) to spend time with them. Brandi is the angel of the family. She’s the most honest and trustworthy person you’ll ever meet. Miley Cyrus says, she’s edgy-but she’s also a really good girl. Trace is the carefree one. He doesn’t worry what anybody thinks of him. Trace is super rock ‘n’ roll-Miley Cyrus love his band, Metro Station. If Miley Cyrus had to categorize her family, she’d say he’s the one who’s the most like her. Or, Miley Cyrus guesses shes the most like him, since he’s the older one.

Now that Miley Cyus is so busy she is very aware of exactly how much time Miley Cyrus has with her family. Miley Cyrus want to make sure she make the most of it. It’s not like they sat down and made rules like “Everyone has to be home for Tuesday pot roast dinner” or “Nobody talks on their cell phones in the living room.” Miley Cyrus’s house is a loud, busy place with family and friends and animals coming and going. But, just like most people, they try to keep the stress-and definitely the work-out of the house. At home, Miley Cyrus is not a celebrity. Everyone still knows her name, but instead of chanting it at a show, they’re shouting up the stairs for her to get her dirty laundry. At home Miley Cyrus is just someone who had a job sooner than most kids do. The nice thing about her family is that everything Miley Cyrusis doing now is all stuff her dad has done for so long that when Miley Cyrus started doing it, nobody paid much attention.
