Self Help guru James Arthur Ray, 52, is currently awaiting trial on three counts of manslaughter when a ceremonial sweat-lodge ritual he organized went horribly wrong. He has pleaded not guilty.

It began when Oprah Winfrey raved about a 2006 self-help book, “The Secret.” Then Ray was featured in a film based on the book — and he was catapulted to superstardom. What had heretofore been relegated to the new-age fringe quickly became mainstream.

Ray’s book “Harmonic Wealth” became a best-seller. He was able to cash in on his popular seminars and buy a multimillion dollar home in Beverly Hills . He also amassed a cadre of B-list celebrity friends, such as Marla Maples and Hulk Hogan, said Hope Miller, a former employee.

Setting out on their quest for fame and fortune, three female TV stars of different backgrounds are determined to achieve their dreams at any price. But after so many ups and downs in their acting careers, they finally come to discover the meaning of true beauty.

When Ko Ching-Man (Kate Tsui) wins a beauty a pageant, she quickly leaps to stardom and joins the entertainment circle, despite the protests of her mother, Cheung Lai-Hung (Kingdom Yuen), a retired actress. Lai-Hung knows that the life of a celebrity is not what it seems, and tries to protect her daughter from the harsh reality. Ko-Ching soon meets fellow actress Cally (Sharon Chan), and the two quickly become best friends. Cally is dating her assistant production friend Deacon (Chris Lai). Ko-Ching soon finds out that Cally pretends to be rich in front of the media by borrowing money from the bank and opening multiple credit cards. Ko-Ching promises not to tell anybody. However, when the two best friends land roles in a movie, Cally wants to eliminate Ko-Ching’s part so that she will be the main star. Leading actress Keung Chi-Fung (Christine Ng), once a bitter rival of Ko-Ching’s mother, exposes Cally’s lies and reveals the truth behind Cally’s supposed wealth to the media.

Chi-Fung sees this as an opportunity to eliminate two rising stars and she begins to take Ko-Ching under her wing, slowly planning to bring her into a moral downfall. Chi-Fung pretends to be kind, but as they grow closer, Chi-Fung begins tempting Ko-Ching with drugs and money. Under Chi-Fung’s influence, Lai-Hung begins to see a dramatic change in her daughter’s character. Ko-Ching begins using dirty tactics to hurt Cally, such as stealing Deacon away from her. Eventually, Ko-Ching realizes Chi-Fung is just pretending to be her friend, just like Cally was.

As Ko-Ching becomes more and more scheming, she no longer trusts anyone and thinks everyone has betrayed her. Everyone is shocked by Ko-Ching’s sudden change is personality, from Cally, to Chin-Fung, to her friend Kit, and even a tabloid writer that has always admired Ko-Ching.

As Ko-Ching’s acting career takes off, Chi-Fung becomes desperate for everlasting beauty and injects her face with botox in an attempt to slow the aging process. However, Chi-Fung’s face begins changing shape and her cosmetic endorsements with many companies are cut, being replaced by Ko-Ching. Even the best actress award, that she has won for years, are slipping out of Chi-Fung’s hands. To vent her anger, Chi-Fung vows to plunge Ko-Ching into a pit of despair and pain.

The three actresses struggle to become the most popular. Who will come out on top?

As People magazine’s most anticipated issue of the year – the World’s Most Beautiful 2010 – hits news stands tomorrow, we couldn’t help but notice that a dominant portion of this year’s “Most Beautiful” femme fatales were big beauty industry players this year.

Leading lady Julia Roberts signed her first cosmetic contract of her career, partnering with French luxury brand Lancôme to endorse their best-selling line of mascaras, glosses and fragrances — her personal red carpet favorite of which is L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Rich Cashmere. The star of upcoming film Eat, Pray Love, we hear that Roberts insisted that a lighter hand be used on ad airbrushing, so as to preserve the age and expression around her eyes.

George Clooney told People magazine that the pretty woman has an especially potent beauty secret. “It has nothing to do with the way she looks. It has everything to do with who she is.”

And Roberts isn’t the only A-list star to dip her toes in the beauty arena.

Longtime contract virgin Jennifer Aniston, who’s also one of this years “Most Beautiful,” finally took the leap with the announcement that she’ll be launching her own fragrance, Lolavie — which will debut in the UK’s Harrods this summer before making the journey to US shores in the fall. The former Friends star just turned 41, and celebrated the milestone with a birthday getaway to Mexico joined by famous BFFs Courtney Cox and Sheryl Crow.

Newcomer Zoe Saldana’s break-through role in Avatar launched the native New Yorker’s stardom to meteoric heights, and Avon soon came knocking with a contract to endorse their newest rose-scented fragrance, Eternal Magic. “It means so much to me to be associated with a company that shares my values and believes in empowering women,” said Saldana.

No stranger to the beauty world, Jennifer Lopez is back from a brief career hiatus tending to two-year old twins Emme and Max — and the always-glowing star just landed on the cover of makeup artist and long time best friend Scott Barnes’ book, About Face: Amazing Transformations Using The Secrets Of The Top Celebrity Makeup Artist. Lopez recently told StyleList that Dr Hauschka’s Rose Cream is a can’t-live-without fav that she always totes along.

Rounding out the pack, pouty L’Oréal face Scarlett Johansson made waves modeling the French bargain brand’s cosmetics, for which she signed a reported $4 million dollar contract with the beauty giant. The 25 year-old tells People magazine that her two must-have beauty staples are, “red lipstick and sandwiches.” Not surprising coming from a beauty who Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau called “one of the guys.”

There is also plenty of hot man love to be shared in the mag; Channing Tatum, Jake Gyllenhaal and Bradley Cooper all flex their meaty biceps for the issue.
